Look Who’s Talking!
Professors from some of the best North American universities!
ProfTalks Lectures is pleased to announce the line-up of speakers for its next event on Saturday, April 25th at the Bram and Bluma Appel Salon at the Toronto Reference Library. Our event will consist of two half-day sessions. Each session will feature three gifted educators from some of the best universities and colleges in North America.
Here are the “all-star” professors we have lined up for the event:
Professor Joe Schwarcz is the director at the McGill Office for Science and Society, host of The Dr. Joe Schwarcz Show on radio and a columnist at the Montreal Gazette. He will be speaking on Celebrity Science – From Suzanne Somers to Dr. Oz. Brush up on your scientific literacy with this discussion of science, sense and nonsense.
From political affairs to the affairs of politicians, there’s no better expert than Professor Robert. P. Watson, Professor of American Studies at Lynn University. Confront questions about the media, privacy and personal character while learning about The Unknown History of Sex and Scandal in the White House.
Professor Bruce Conforth is the founding curator of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a professor in the Department of American Culture at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Join him for a discussion on The Bluesy Roots of American Popular Music, featuring rare memorabilia and live performance from Professor Conforth.
Professor Annette Insdorf of Columbia University School of the Arts is one of the foremost critics of American film. Join her for Master of Suspense: The Artistry of Alfred Hitchcock, a close look at Psycho and the elements that have rendered this film a classic – from cinematography to soundtrack to voyeurism.
Professor Lloyd Alter, Professor at Ryerson University’s School of Interior Design and Managing Editor at TreeHugger, will tell us Why “Small is the New Big” in his discussion of sustainable design. Learn how thinking small when it comes to our homes and cities has a big impact on how we live.
